چکیده

We investigate estimation and inference in difference in difference econometric models used in the analysis of treatment effects. When the innovations in such models display serial correlation, commonly used ordinary least squares (OLS) procedures are inefficient and may lead to tests with incorrect size. Implementation of feasible generalized least squares (FGLS) procedures is often hindered by too few observations in the cross section to allow for unrestricted estimation of the weight matrix without leading to tests with similar size distortions as conventional OLS based procedures. We analyze the small sample properties of FGLS based tests with a higher order Edgeworth expansion that allows us to construct a size corrected version of the test. We also address the question of optimal temporal aggregation as a method to reduce the dimension of the weight matrix. We apply our procedure to data on regulation of mobile telephone service prices. We find that a size corrected FGLS based test outperforms tests based on OLS. ∗We thank Matthew Harding, Alan Grant, Anne Hall and Jie Yang for excellent research assistance. On Some Aspects of a Posteriori Error Estimation in the Multipoint Meshless Fdm

The higher order multipoint meshless finite difference method (MFDM) is considered in this paper. The new approach is based on arbitrary irregular meshes, the moving weighted least squares approximation and the local or various global formulations of boundary value problems. A priori and a posteriori errors constitute the important part of engineering problem analysis. The paper is focused on a...

Locally Weighted Least Squares Temporal Difference Learning

This paper introduces locally weighted temporal difference learning for evaluation of a class of policies whose value function is nonlinear in the state. Least squares temporal difference learning is used for training local models according to a distance metric in state-space. Empirical evaluations are reported demonstrating learning performance on a number of strongly non-linear value function...

Testing the martingale difference hypothesis using integrated regression functions

This paper proposes an omnibus test for testing a generalized version of the martingale difference hypothesis (MDH). The generalized hypothesis includes the usual MDH or testing for conditional moments constancy such as conditional homoscedasticity (ARCH effects). Here we propose a unified approach for dealing with all of them. These hypotheses are long standing problems in econometric time ser...

An Emotion Recognition Approach based on Wavelet Transform and Second-Order Difference Plot of ECG

Emotion, as a psychophysiological state, plays an important role in human communications and daily life. Emotion studies related to the physiological signals are recently the subject of many researches. In This study a hybrid feature based approach was proposed to examine affective states. To this effect, Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals of 47 students were recorded using pictorial emotion elici...

Procedures for comparing samples with multiple endpoints.

Five procedures are considered for the comparison of two or more multivariate samples. These procedures include a newly proposed nonparametric rank-sum test and a generalized least squares test. Also considered are the following tests: ordinary least squares, Hotelling's T2, and a Bonferroni per-experiment error-rate approach. Applications are envisaged in which each variable represents a quali...
